The Giving Season

There is always one time of year that everyone looks forward to, heading into the warm days of summer and the festive season generally brings a smile to our faces. It’s a cheerful time and  a time for giving. The happiness and giving was extended when Metraclark with the help of some volunteer staff, arranged a day for the children from Kliptown Nursery School to visit the Johannesburg Zoo.

Metraclark already take care of the annual salaries of the teachers working there and this was just an extension of our charity on the side.

The 100+ excited children were collected from the school by bus early on Thursday the 14th of November and transported to the Zoo for a fun filled day. For some it was the first time they had been to a Zoo  and the excitement clearly showed when they arrived.

The enjoyment was evident on their faces as they got to see all the animals that they have learnt about at school. It’s not an easy task controlling so many children with so much energy but the volunteers came out unscathed although a little exhausted. Despite this, the staff all agree, that it is such a humbling and rewarding experience to be able to share the happiness of the children.

After a walk around the zoo the children enjoyed lunch on the grass followed by some singing and  dancing. They were all handed a small Christmas present to go home with as well as some really good memories of a simple day that will certainly show benefits to them in years to come.

Metraclark take great delight in the fact that we have been able to support the Kliptown nursery school for the past 11 years helping give back and make an important difference in thissmall community.

A big thanks goes to all the staff that attended, Carmen Sutherland, Debbie Fenton, Irene Van Deventer, Janine Buitendag, Janine Stols, Kobus Hattingh, Mark Gengan, Sonto Leaba, Stephanie Matthews and Vernon Vandrau, your help was invaluable in making the day such a success.
